Internship with the Lutheran World Federation
August 29, 2007 in Church, Ecumenism, Faith, Life, LWF, Youth participation
Spending ten months in another country. Getting to know people from virtually every part of the world. Working at the center of the ecumenical movement. Learning, praying, advancing ideas, supporting the worldwide church.
In short, that is what the youth internship in the Lutheran World Federation is about. To bring it a little bit more into order I’ll explain what you would have to expect if you are selected:
Work: You would be working at one desk in the Lutheran World Federation together with one person who supervises you. That can be Theology and Studies, HIV and Aids or the Desk for Women in Church and Society. You will get your specific tasks and have time to develop your own ideas. Some of the tasks might be very interesting, certainly some are going to be less interesting. But you can do them all in a supportive team.
Learning: No question, you are going to learn a lot while working. But there are even more opportunities during the ten months of your stay. You are learning to understand other cultures better. That is not always easy but it helps you to understand yourself better. We have a joint program of ecumenical learning sessions together with the interns of the World Council of Churches, the Young Women’s Christian Association and the Young Men’s Christian Association. These session bring information about these organizations and the LWF and other parts of the ecumenical movement. Bible studies help to understand work and life in the light of God’s promise. In addition, it helps to have time to reflect about what is happening together with others who are in a similar situation.
Life: Certainly, a significant part of the time in the internship is not structured by work or learning sessions. You have time to find new friends, enjoy your hobbies and discover the area you live in. If you like a lake, mountains and an international city, Geneva might be the right place for you to check out.
Faith: Last but not least, the ten months of internship is a faith journey also. You are going to discover what God is doing in your life, how he helps you to get across difficulties. You are also going to discover how other people believe and live their faith. Some of it might seem strange, some things you might even find wrong. Sometimes you will find that the faith that seems so strange to you clearly mirrors God’s grace.
If you would like to be part of this experience, you can apply until October 1. All details are on this webpage. If you have any questions, please contact me right away. This term, the internship is limited to participants from Africa, Asia and Latin America. Everybody needs an endorsement from a member church of the Lutheran World Federation.

I am among those applied in this Inteinship Under the desk of HIV and Aids.I would like to know when the selection will be done and if those who miss the oppoturnity will be informed as the deadline was October 1st.
Hi Ombeni,

We are right now in the process of selecting the interns. I am confident that we are going to be able to inform all applicants next week. Believe me – compared to other programs that is very fast. All the best, Roger

I am the executive director of an NGO in Uganda called Community Transformation Foundation Network (COTFONE). I formed the NGO in 2003 as a result of the increasing number of orphaned and vulnerable children (OVC’S), lack of access to capital for community members, and the high prevalence of HIV/AIDS. My NGO provides free formal education to 170 OVC’S, and engages in many activities, from forming Village and Savings Loan Associations, to developing Income Generating Activities. I actively participate in all these activities, especially regarding the children’s education. Asides from teaching many classes myself, I devise ways to make the education center more sustainable.
Am looking forward how we can obtain different internships from this organization.
