Kenya Youth Peace Summit 2009

At the beginning of 2008, Kenya experienced a terrible outbreak of violence following an election that had  many thought had irregularities. Many people died in the riots and even churches were burnt down. Young people in Kenya were among the victims and among the perpetrators.

A Youth peace summit under the leadership of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kenya and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America but in ecumenical openness is going to address this and other issues. Georges Arende, a former LWF Youth intern and main organizer of the conference, writes:

Participants are asked to bring examples of peace building initiatives in their localities and income generating projects, especially those relating to youth. Several events will take place:

  • Youth leadership council and media training (by special invitation)
  • Dialogue with different leaders
  • Tracks on Reconciliation, Empowerment & Employment
  • Field trips, interfaith worship services and cultural events throughout the gathering.

Part of the conference is a young communicator’s training and there it will be interesting to watch what happens on their blog.

Please find here the report that we prepared for the  Lutheran World Federation – Department for Mission and Development. Here is the full text or you can download the LWF Youth Report 2008- with nice pictures… Continue reading
