Advocacy in practice: Gas drilling in Pennsylvania, USA

In this guest post, the ELCA pastor Rev Ricky Phillips reports on his involvement on ecological justice in the US state of Pennsylvania:

In the state of Pennsylvania (USA), one of the biggest events going on is the drilling for natural gas. Due to the rich natural resources of Pennsylvania, many jobs could be created with billions of dollars going to the state. The Governor of Pennsylvania appointed a Marcellus Shale commission that gave several recommendations on how drilling could be done safely. The commission also gave several recommendations on how to deal with the many impacts of drilling such as health impacts, increased crime in drilling regions, environmental impacts, and many other areas. Outcomes of the Virtual Conference

On 12 May, the Lutheran World Federation had its first virtual conference. 400 people from 52 countries participated in this experiment and discussed ecological justice from different aspects. We are continuing to work on ecological justice and LWF Youth is currently rolling out its 2012 LWF togehter program on eco-justice. But obviously it is also interesting to know whether the new methodology of a virtual conference actually works. Read the rest of this entry →

LWF together 2012 - green&just guidebook out

The 2012 guidebook is ready. In the coming weeks, we are going to write more about the content of this year’s LWF together program. But here is already the guidebook in English. French, German and Spanish are forthcoming.

LWF together green&just empowers youth groups and youth camps to reflect on ecological justice from a biblical and practical point of view and get into action.
